Dust Control Program

Homeowners within the boundaries of the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead may apply to have dust control (up to 300 linear feet of magnesium chloride) applied in front of their homesites at a cost of $150.00 + GST ($157.50) for a single application.

This dust control program is limited to the first 200 pre-paid applicants.

The Rural Municipality of Brokenhead will begin accepting applications 8:30 a.m., Friday, March 15th, 2019.

The deadline for applications along with the $157.50 payment is no later than APRIL 30th, 2019.

NOTE:  The Municipality is not responsible for the product used or its application.  If residents have any problems of concerns with the product used, please contact the contractor directly.

Notice of Road Restrictions

Each year, the municipal road infrastructure is weakened by the spring thaw.  To reduce damage to our roads, reduced vehicle weights are applied to all Local Urban District of Tyndall, Garson and Henryville streets.  This year, depending on weather conditions, restrictions will be applied similar to the dates chosen by the Province, which at this time will commence 6:00 a.m. March 18th, 2019.

During this time, all streets will be limited to 65% of normal axle loads and may remain in effect for up to 72 days.  For up to date information about the Province of Manitoba’s road restriction schedule, click HERE.

Public Works Foreman Position

The Public Works Foreman manages the day to day coordination of the Public Works Department and is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of services.  This position oversees the work of up to 11 employees as well as the work of all the municipal road network and drainage systems.  Provides advice and technical guidance to the Chief Administrative Officer on infrastructure and other functions of the department.  The Public Works Foreman is an effective team leader whose contributions assist in the achievement of the department, developing an annual budget, ensuring compliance with the policies and plans approved by Council.

This position directs the operations and staff on all public works activities and must demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage staff.  Excellent knowledge of municipal infrastructure maintenance and repair for roads, fleet vehicles, bridges, water distribution and wastewater collection and treatment systems.

Required Education/Work Experience

– Grade 12 or equivalent
– Class II water and wastewater license
– Valid Class I Drivers License – 2 years’ experience
– Minimum 10 years’ experience in municipal infrastructure operations, maintenance and construction and safe operations of related tools and equipment
– Some experience supervising in a Public Works environment, experience working in a municipal and/or unionized environment will be considered an asset
– Computer skills on GIS systems and other software programs would be an asset

Lagoon Dates of Accepting Septic Truck Hauling

The RM of Brokenhead has operation guidelines as per The Environment Act Manitoba License issued for lagoon operation.  Septic truck haulers and home owners in the RM of Brokenhead should make note of the following:

Septage is not allowed to be discharged into the RM of Brokenhead lagoon between the 15th day of October of any year and the 1st day of June of the following year.  Septage is the sludge produced in individual on-site wastewater disposal systems, most commonly septic tanks.  The only exception is in case of an emergency where a septic tank has over filled and solids have flowed over into the liquid side of the tank which could cause problems with pump or fields.

Holding tanks are allowed to be hauled by septic truck haulers to the RM of Brokenhead lagoon throughout the whole year as these tanks consist of mostly wastewater rather than solids.

Free Fill

Attention Homeowners, Farmers and Contractors!

Some ditching projects have excess fill (mud) that needs to be hauled away.  If your location is near an upcoming project, the Municipality can haul the excess fill at no cost.  Also, if you have equipment to do so, you can collect the fill and haul it during construction.

Water & Sewer Connection Deadline

Please be reminded that all property owners are responsible for connecting to the municipal water and sewer system by December 31st, 2010.  If connections are not made, the Municipality will enter upon the property to make the necessary connection to the water and sewer system and the property owner will be responsible for all costs incurred therein.  Such costs shall become a charge and lien upon the land and maybe added to the Tax Roll and collected in the same manner as ordinary taxes.
