Notice of 2017 Dust Control Program

Homeowners within the boundaries of the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead may apply to have dust control (up to 300 linear feet of magnesium chloride) applied in front of their homesites at a cost of $150.00 + GST ($157.50) for a single application.

This dust control program is limited to the first 200 pre-paid applicants.

The Rural Municipality of Brokenhead will begin accepting application 8:30 a.m. , Thursday, March 16th, 2017.

The deadline for applications along with the $157.50 payment is no later than May 1st, 2017.

NOTE:  The Municipality is not responsible for the product used or its application.  If residents have any problems or concerns with the product used, please contact the contractor directly.

2017 Spring Road Restrictions

Each year, the Municipal road infrastructure is weakened by the spring thaw.  To reduce damage to our roads, reduced vehicle weights are applied to all Local Urban District of Tyndall-Garson and Henryville streets.  This year, depending on weather conditions, restrictions will be applied similar to the dates chosen by the Province of Manitoba, which at this time will commence March 20th, 2017.

During this time, all streets will be limited to 65% of normal axle loads and may remain in effect for up to 56 days.

Zoning By-Law Open House

The Council of the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead is holding an Open House to provide the public with information about the new proposed Zoning By-Law

The Zoning By-Law specifically deals with development of property and covers the zoning of land, allowable property uses, standards for building size, height of structures, setbacks and other related issues.

 

2017 Financial Plan

Public notice is hereby given, pursuant to subsection 162(2) of The Municipal Act, that the Council of the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead intends to present its Financial Plan for the fiscal year 2017 at a Public Hearing in the Council Chambers of the Brokenhead Municipal Office, located at the intersection of PTH #44 and PR #302, #72013 Road 42E on the 4th day of April, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.  Council will hear any person who wishes to make representation, ask questions or register an objection to the Financial Plan, as presented.

Copies of the aforesaid Financial Plan will be available for review on, or after March 21st, 2017 and may be examined by any person during regular office hours of the Brokenhead Municipal Office, located at the intersection of PTH #44 and PR #302, #72013 Road 42E.

 

Closure of Waste Transfer Station Reserve Account

Public notice is hereby given, pursuant to subsection 169(7)(8) of The Municipal Act, that the Council of the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead intends to close the Waste Transfer Station Reserve Account and transfer all funds into the Gravel Reserve.

The Public Hearing will be held in the Council Chambers of the Brokenhead Municipal Office, located at the intersection of PTH #44 and PR #302, #72013 Road 42E on the 4th day of April, 2017 at 6:45 p.m.  Council will hear any person who wishes to make representation, ask questions or register an objection to this proposal, as presented.

Information regarding the closure of the Waste Transfer Reserve and the transfer of remaining funds to the Gravel Reserve can be obtained by any person during regular office hours of the Brokenhead Municipal Office, located at the intersection of PTH #44 and PR #302, #72013 Road 42E.

 

Employment Opportunity – Seasonal Labourer

The Rural Municipality of Brokenhead is now accepting applications for a Seasonal Labourer, in the Local Urban District of Tyndall-Garson.

Duties include mowing grass, painting, clean-up and general road maintenance.  Some experience is an asset.  The position will be a 40-hour work week for a term lasting from May to mid-October.  This position falls under the supervision of the Local Urban District of Tyndall-Garson Public Works Supervisor.

Wage ranges from $17.88 to $18.79, dependent on experience.

Duties include mowing grass, painting, clean-up and general road maintenance.  Each position will entail a 40-hour work week for a two-month term in July and August.  Manitobans aged 15 to 29 years will be considered.

Related experience and Class 5 driver’s license are assets.

2017 Garbage Stickers

Residents of the Local Urban District of Tyndall-Garson are welcome to pick up their 2017 Garbage Stickers at:

NOTE:  All garbage stickers must be picked up and signed for by the registered property owner.

One sticker is required per bag of garbage.  The pink 2016 stickers can also be used in the month of January 2017.  After that point, any bags with pink stickers will not be picked up.  Orange 2017 stickers can only be used starting January 1st, 2017.  If you run out of pink stickers before the end of 2016, ask your neighbours (we’ve had feedback that many people will have leftovers), or come to our office to purchase more at a cost of $2.00 per sticker.

Residents are now permitted to put their recyclables out in clear plastic bags to prevent items blowing around in windy conditions.  Please do not put recyclables in opaque garbage bags.

Garbage and recycling must be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. each Tuesday for collection.

 

2016 Seniors’ School Tax Rebate

The deadline to apply for the 2015 Rebate has passed.

The 2016 Rebate will be claimed when you file your 2016 income tax return in the spring of 2017.  This means that a separate application for the Rebate is no longer necessary.  It also means that in future years, you will be able to make retroactive claims for up to three years, but no further back than the 2016 Rebate.

To be eligible for the Seniors’ School Tax Rebate, you or your spouse/common-law partner must:

-be 65 years of age or older by the end of the year (December 31st, 2016);
-own your home or be liable for paying the school taxes on your principal residence;
-live in your home, and
-be residents of Manitoba

 

Office Rental Space

Public notice is hereby given that the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead has office space available for rent in the Municipal Administration Building located at 72013 Road 42E at the junction of PTH #44 and PR #302.

Specifics about the office include:

  • 226.9 square feet
  • Furnished with two workstations
  • Hydro, security and cleaning services included in rent

Water & Sewer Connection Deadline

Please be reminded that all property owners are responsible for connecting to the municipal water and sewer system by December 31st, 2010.  If connections are not made, the Municipality will enter upon the property to make the necessary connection to the water and sewer system and the property owner will be responsible for all costs incurred therein.  Such costs shall become a charge and lien upon the land and maybe added to the Tax Roll and collected in the same manner as ordinary taxes.
