The Brokenhead Recreation District Commission comprises of the Town of Beausejour and the RM of Brokenhead, including the LUD of Tyndall and Garson. The Recreation Commission was formed in 1979.

Statement of Responsibility

Reporting to the Councils of the RM of Brokenhead and the Town of Beausejour, the District Recreation Commission shall advise the members of both councils on the delivery of Sport, Art, Culture, Heritage, Leisure and Recreation Program and Facility Services within the District.

Role

• To encourage and initiate the delivery of public recreation program and facility services to meet the sport, art, heritage, leisure, cultural and recreational needs within the District

• To prepare and implement short and long term planning initiatives as follows:

1.     Establish Core Recreational Services

2.     Development of Facilities within the District

3.     Implementation of Program Services within the District

4.     Staffing necessary to support program and facility services

• To prepare and submit annual operating budget to Councils for approval

• To encourage, work with and support the efforts of private entrepreneurs, quasi-independent community organizations, and community recreation groups and services within the District

• Develop policies and procedures that impact on the delivery of recreation related services

 Meetings

      Board Meetings a minimum of 10 times per year

      Generally no July or August meeting (at the call of the Chair)

      Presently meet on the third Tuesday of each month at the Sun Gro Centre at 6:00 pm

      Sub-Committe Meeting called when required

Staffing

Full Time Program Director position to assist the board with implementation of policies, procedures and programs.
